KAATSU Blood Flow Restriction

Specialized compression cuffs that amplify muscle adaptation using light loads—safe for all fitness levels.

What is KAATSU Blood Flow Restriction?

KAATSU Blood Flow Restriction Training uses specialized pneumatic cuffs on the upper arms or thighs to partially restrict venous blood flow during exercise. This creates metabolic stress and muscle fatigue at low loads that would normally require heavy lifting.

How it works

Partial venous restriction causes blood pooling and metabolic byproduct accumulation in the muscle. This signals mTOR pathways and growth hormone release comparable to high-load training—at just 20–30% of 1RM. Arteries remain open throughout.

Why clients use it

Clients incorporate KAATSU Blood Flow Restriction into their protocols for a range of goals and conditions — from acute recovery to long-term optimization.

Post-surgical or injury rehabilitation

Muscle building without joint stress

Sarcopenia and muscle loss prevention

Athletic volume training

Cardiovascular conditioning at low intensity

What to expect

Session Duration:20–30 min

Comfortable pneumatic cuffs are applied to limbs. Light exercise follows—bands, bodyweight, or machines. Sessions are surprisingly intense despite low loads.

Safety considerations

Pressure is monitored and calibrated. Not appropriate for clients with DVT history, certain circulatory disorders, or sites of active infection.

Recovery Stacking — Sequencing Guide

Based on clinical evidence, here is how KAATSU Blood Flow Restriction pairs with other OutRecover modalities.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

below 2.0 ATAAfter

Recovery, oxygenation, inflammation control

HBOT after KAATSU aids in clearing lactate and inflammation, improving tissue recovery without blunting BFR metabolic benefits.

PEMF Therapy

Before

Cellular readiness, vascular priming

PEMF improves nitric oxide availability and microcirculation, enhancing oxygen/nutrient delivery during KAATSU.

Red Light Therapy

performanceBefore
recoveryAfter

Mitochondrial energy, fatigue resistance, recovery

Pre-KAATSU RLT improves ATP and vasodilation; post-KAATSU RLT supports lactate clearance and repair.

Infrared Sauna

After

Recovery, detox, inflammation modulation

Sauna after KAATSU enhances metabolite clearance, heat shock protein production, and parasympathetic activation.

Dry Cold Plunge

Before

Performance boost, neuro priming, anti-inflammation

Cold plunge before KAATSU enhances motor unit recruitment and metabolic stress; avoid immediately after to prevent hypertrophy suppression.

BOA Max Lymphatic Compression

After

Lymphatic drainage, soreness, metabolic waste

BOA after KAATSU improves lymph flow and prolongs growth factor circulation, accelerating recovery.

Normatec Compression

warm-upBefore
recoveryAfter

Circulation, soreness relief, warm-up or cool-down

Before KAATSU, Normatec enhances range of motion and vascular priming; after helps drain metabolic byproducts.

AI Bike Training

After

VO2 max, mitochondrial recovery, fat oxidation

KAATSU-generated lactate boosts REHIT response; post-KAATSU AI Bike enhances fat oxidation and aerobic recovery.

Molecular Hydrogen

Before

Fatigue resistance, oxidative stress control

Hydrogen before KAATSU reduces oxidative stress, improves nitric oxide response, and enhances fatigue resistance.
